For many parents with a new born child, there will be a lot of firsts. First words, first steps etc. Many parents, especially around the time of Christmas, wish to add first Christmas ornaments to this list.

It is also possible to have the baby's name and a message like first Christmas or Easter engraved or printed on the ornament to mark the occasion. They are sometimes dated as well.

At a time where a lot of families may be feeling the pinch of the recession, keep-sake tokens need not be expensive but can provide real sentimality for the baby in later life.

It is normally done at Christmas as this is the time at which gifts tend to be given anyway. It is also an important Christian festival and there are no real useful presents to buy a baby.

Some parents chose to purchase a more expensive ornament in either gold or silver, much the same as a Christening present as a more permanent and valuable gift. Others may opt to add a small photo of the baby as part of a customised ornament.
